Don't let it be said that the Soviets were the only one that like big guns. :D

This is an 8 inch artillery piece from the Infantry Museum at Fort Benning, Georgia. According to the little placard on the side of the thing, we got the design for it from the French...but I haven't seen anything else to support that. Either way, it was a hell of a system, and it soldiered on in various forms from WWI through to Vietnam, when we finally phased them out.

It's called the Long Tom.

I have seen the Self proppeled version of that howitzer (M-110, as featured of BF Vietnam and RedAlert 1), and apparently as far as I know, the Allied forces during the cold war made a Nuke shell for it.

Looking at the actual gun (not the chasse) it is clear to me that it is the same gun that is on a M-110 Howitzer tank, the British Army used the M-110 until the first Gulf War.

The M-110's gun is almost identical to your photo

Little hard for me to get on posts these days. But I'd love to Anne...though I was under the impression that Anne was hanging out at Aberdeen. Then again they did have more than one of these batteries for a time.

Nope. The one at Aberdeen was just one of several interm pieces fielded. The true "Atomic Anne" made famous on the news reels sits at the Fort Sill Artillery Museum. Along with several dozens of other US and captured pieces from past enemies. :stormtrooper:
